La Carrera Panamericana

La Carrera Panamericana Mexican Road Race first began in 1950 and was hailed as one of the most famous events in auto racing history. However, La Carrera only ran for a short time, ending in 1954. Over thirty years passed before the event was brought back as a "stage rally" going from southern Mexico up to the border over a seven day period. In keeping with the historical format, all participants must drive a vehicle from 1965 or older, or compete in the unlimited class. Every year La Carrera Panamericana draws 100 amateur racing teams from around the world to compete in this grueling event where just reaching the finish line is a victory. The race route for 2010 will take the racers through Chiapas, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, Morelia, Guadalajara, Aguascalientes and will end in Zacatecas.
